Methods of Sociological Studies Department

The department was established in 1991 (before 2003 was called as Department of Methods and Techniques of Concrete Sociological Research).

The Department trains specialists on the specialty “Sociology” (Bachelor’s, Specialist’s, Masters’s qualification level).

Graduates of the Department with Specialist’s and Master’s degree get the qualification sociologist, teacher of sociological disciplines.

Scientific activity of the Department is carried out in many directions. The focus of the scientific activity is related to the analysis of cognitive possibilities of modern methods used in study of social phenomena and processes.

Research projects that involve teachers, other members and students of the Department:

  • International research project ENRI-East “Interplay of European, National and Regional Identities: Nations between States along the New Eastern Borders of the European Union” (2008-2012) (funded in the frameworks of FP 7 Program, EU).
  • International research project HITT-CIS “Health in Times of Transition: Trends in Population Health and Health Policies in CIS Countries” (2009-2013) (funded in the frameworks of FP 7 Program, EU).

The Head of the Department - Alexander I. Kizilov, PhD in Sociology, professor. The main directions of scientific activity: studying mechanisms of formation and functioning of the mass consciousness of the modern metropolis inhabitants.
