The department was founded in 2009 to prepare students for the Master's program "Media & Communications".

The Master's Program conception is based on an interdisciplinary approach and presupposes the integration of methods for such scientific fields as theories of information society, mass media communication, cyberculture and Internet communications, sociology of media, theory and history of visual culture, visual anthropology, film studies, photo- and media art, and multimedia studies.

In the frameworks of the Master's Program course, master classes and workshops are conducted by experts and specialists in different spheres of media communications: well-known authors of the television programs, editors, designers, copywriters, logo makers, photographers, film critics, advertising/marketing/PR managers, etc. Master classes are conducted by Ukrainian media specialists and visiting experts from abroad.

The Master's Program is to prepare specialists in the field of media & communications, media-criticism (photo-, cinema criticism, and analysis of media texts) and media expertise in mass media, Internet-communications, media institutions and commercial firms, advertising/marketing/PR agencies, and public sphere institutions.

Fundamental innovations of the Master's Program are: capability to realize the author's projects in the media sphere; the applying of interactive multimedia technologies in education, conduction of practical master-classes by media experts.

Media & Communications department includes the Center of Visual Culture and Media Communications. The aim of the Center is to realize prospective media projects: scientific research, educational programs, and artistic actions. (www.mediatopos.org).
