The Education and Research Institute of Computer Physics and Energy is the first Ukrainian institution of double subordination under the Ministry of Education and Science and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. With its existence, the institute implements the idea of a deep interaction between academic science and higher education. The creation of such an institution was the imperative of our time and was dictated by economic and energy challenges facing Ukraine.
The history of the Education and Research Institute started on July 12, 2001, when by a joint decree of the Ministry of Education and Science and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the School of Physics and Energy was created at V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. The time of its creation and modern nature of the tasks to be solved by the School make it "the School of the third millennium". On November 1, 2019, the School of Physics and Energy was reorganized into the Education and Research Institute of Computer Physics and Energy.
The faculty of the Institute together with undergraduate and postgraduate students are engaged in intensive research. The results of fundamental studies are regularly published in leading national and international journals, such as Physical Review Letters and Physical Review. Applied studies of the Institute staff are widely used in practice.
The study "Improving Energy Efficiency of Turbines of TPS and TPP Through Modernization, Reconstruction and Improvement of Their Operation Modes", authored in particular by the School of Physics and Energy staff, Academician of the NAS of Ukraine Yu. M. Matsevityi and Professor V. V. Solovei, was awarded the State Prize of Ukraine.
Senior students are taught general and specialized subjects by leading scientists, who work at the forefront of contemporary fundamental and applied science. The content of specialized courses is being regularly updated in order to meet the requirements of numerous potential employers, representatives of enterprises and scientific institutions. The Education and Research Institute of Computer Physics and Energy offers a full-time education. The duration of study is 6 years. The Institute prepares specialists in traditional and new technologies for obtaining, transforming, and using energy with a major in Applied Physics. The Institute offers the following specializations: Information Technologies in Energy, Alternative Energy Sources and Thermal Physics.
The Education and Research Institute of Computer Physics and Energy has four departments:
The Institute’s graduates are highly qualified specialists in physical, chemical, and mathematical basics of modeling of energy conversion processes and complex power systems, as well as in the field of computer control of energy complexes and high-tech equipment. The graduates’ activities are related to studying and using both traditional sources of thermal and hydro energy, and solar, wind, hydrogen, geothermal, and other types of renewable energy, as well as nuclear and thermonuclear energy.
Graduates of the Education and Research Institute of Computer Physics and Energy can work in leading scientific, industrial, and manufacturing institutions, private enterprises, as well as in power generation and distribution companies of Ukraine. They can also be instructors at universities, lyceums and colleges. All graduates are provided with a job. After receiving their Bachelor's or Master's degree, they can pursue a Master’s or a postgraduate degree at universities of Ukraine, the USA, Germany, Canada, Japan, and other countries.
