The Department of Natural Sciences was established in 1961, when the preparatory school for foreign citizens began to work at A. M. Gorky Kharkiv State University (now V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University).

The main activity of the Department is to prepare foreign citizens in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, computer sciences, and drawing for successful study in the first years of medical and biological, economic, engineering and technical universities and higher education institutions of Ukraine.

Modern computer technologies and multimedia software are effectively used in the academic process. All subjects are fully equipped with educational and methodical literature and visual materials.
