General information

Project aim:

development and implementation of integrated, systemic food policies that support the transition towards sustainable food systems in urban, peri-urban and nearby rural areas.

Project objectives:

• develop 12 Living Labs to implement different innovative actions through all stages of the food chain, including production and processing, distribution and logistics, governance, consumption and waste;
• with the support of the FUSILLI Knowledge Community, build an urban food plan to reach an integrated and safe holistic transition towards healthy, sustainable, secure, equitable and cost-efficient food systems;
• identify best practices and initiatives among existing and well-functioning living labs to develop systemic food policies and sustainable food systems in the city.

Project activity areas:

• evaluation of functioning living labs and their applicability to the FUSILLI project in order to further develop a methodology for creating living labs in the city;
• identification of local actors of the urban food system and their involvement in the project;
• development of management strategies and basic principles of living labs;
• development and implementation of a Roadmap that will define the objectives and desired results of the project, as well as the main steps and stages required to achieve the project objectives;
• preparation of a public report on guidelines for local government, location, planning of living labs’ activities;
• dissemination of the project results.

Expected results:

• creation of new and sound evidence for policy makers in relation to urban food systems in support of systemic food policies development;
• building up of political commitment and capacity for multi-objective coordinated strategies, roadmaps and actions between different government departments, jurisdictions and stakeholders that aim at delivering co-benefits relevant to FOOD 2030 priorities;
• creation of innovation opportunities and jobs relevant to city region livelihoods and economic development for all actors of the food systems;
• improved social inclusion and equity of all actors of the food systems;
• reconnection of citizens with food fostering behavioural change towards healthy sustainable diets and nutrition, responsible production and consumption;
• increased food and nutrition security for urban and rural dwellers.
