Laying Flowers on the Occasion of the 249th Birth Anniversary of the Founder of Kharkiv University
On February 10, 2022, the Karazin University community is celebrating the 249th birth anniversary of the University’s founder Vasyl Nazarovych Karazin.
To honor the memory of the outstanding educator, the administration and staff of Karazin University held a ceremony of laying flowers to the monument to the founder of Kharkiv University. “This holiday is not only for our university, but for the whole of Ukraine. If Vasyl Nazarovych had not been born, there would not have been Karazin University and the wonderful city of Kharkiv as it is now,” said Vice-President Anatolii Babichev.
In addition to the traditional event, representatives of Karazin University honored the memory of Vasyl Karazin by laying flowers on his grave in Mykolaiv. The University delegation included Deputy Director of P. T. Tronko Center for Area Studies, Olha Vovk, and employees of the Center for Public Relations: Maryna Hryhorieva, Ivan Aleksandrov, and Anastasisa Tsiupka.
Also, the Karazin’s Paths project started its work in Mykolaiv. Its purpose is to show Vasyl Nazarovych’s life and creative path from his birth in the village of Kruchyk to the last days in Mykolaiv. The results of the project will be presented in February 2023 during the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the birth of the University’s founder.
For reference. Vasyl Karazin’s burial crypt is a historical monument on the territory of the Mykolaiv necropolis, located on the outskirts of the city on the banks of the Inhul River. In addition to Vasyl Karazin, such prominent scientists and public figures as botanist Matvii Afonin, orientalist Mykola Pantusov, urban planner Mykhailo Falieiev, and military governor of Mykolaiv Mykola Arkas are buried in the necropolis.
