The Scientific Society of Students, Postgraduates, Doctoral Students and Young Scientists is the self-government body of students, postgraduate students, doctoral students and young scientists and is part of the system of public self-government of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. The Society carries out its activity on the principles of freedom of scientific creativity, voluntariness, collegiality, openness, equality of rights of people who study or work on scientific and pedagogical positions, to participate in activities of scientific societies of students, postgraduates, doctoral students and young scholars and other general legal principles which do not contradict the current legislation The history of students’ scientific clubs and associations of the University dates back to the 20th years of the XIX century when they have become an integral part of university life. During the next one hundred years student’s scientific work has been changing its forms, but never stopped. The Student Scientific Society of the University as the only focal point for scientific clubs and associations of students and post-graduate students was founded in 1936. It was one of the very first organizations of this kind. The first chairman of the SSS was B. M. Krasovitsky who later became a doctor of chemistry, a professor, a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Since 2004 the Student Scientific Society of the University has been restructured in accordance with the requirements of modern classical university. In November 2016 at the Conference of Postgraduate Students and Doctoral students of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University a proposal was made about the establishment of a self-government body for postgraduate students, doctoral students and young scientists. In December 2016 at the Staff Conference of the University the Regulations of the Scientific Society of Students, Postgraduates, Doctoral Students and Young Scientists of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University were approved, defining the structure, organization of the student’s assets of the university as well as the structure and organization of the asset of graduate students, doctoral students, young scientists and their activities. Currently at the university level the Scientific Society is divided into two structural subdivisions: the Student Scientific Society which coordinates scientific and technical work of students and the Council of Young Scientists which coordinates scientific work of postgraduate students, doctoral students and young scientists. The purpose of the Scientific Society is to realize the scientific, technical and organizational potential of students, post-graduate students, doctoral students and young scientists of the University that contributes to the development of the country’s science and implementation of the scientific activities’ results.
